  • We reached the airport by taxi from our hotel in no time (30 minutes!) Once on the motorway, there was no traffic. Our driver explained that it was like this since the Greek crisis begun. His cab is empty most of the time as most tourists don’t stay in Athens, and the local population takes the taxi less often. The offer outweights the demand.

    He’d waited 3 hours before running us to the airport and was expecting a similar wait at the airport.

    Many arcades and business outlets are for rent, downtown like on the way to the airport. Billboards are empty. It’s a weird feeling. Again, we didn’t stay long enough to get a real feel of what is happening here, but even in the tourists areas there is a feeling of gloom.

  • Frozen yogurt (with a selection of toppings) are all the rage here. After Paros’ Slurp, we discovered a number of other outlets with similar offereings (Yogolicious, Chill Box, etc.)

  • Dwelling in the market. I love strolling through food markets. Early morning is the best time. This is where you’ll get a feel of the town. Monastiraki market is neatly organised in meat / fish / veg / fruit / flowers with amazing stalls.

    There is a little taverna in the center of the meat section that is well worth trying according to good friends of ours. We didn’t have the opportunity, but shall certainly come back.
